Sector Watch Up Trending: Sideways: XLE, XLY, XLV, XLK, XLB Down Trending: XLF, XLP, XLI, XLU No, No, No...Not Again... Yes, once again... It's time for...Another...Yellow Alert... The major indices on Friday finished six consecutive weeks up for the first time since 2007 completing a V Bottom formation off the low of March 6. Last Thursday, April 9, in the Weekly Wrap Dave pointed out that the chart with the SPX breakout that day indicated an SPX target over the next six trading days of 875. Yes, the session is recorded. On Friday, April 17, the SPX hit an intraday high of 875.63. Target achieved. For the skeptics, yes, yes, we know, it's only an accident. Friday’s Spinning Top is clear indication that Wednesday and Thursday’s upward momentum is at least pausing. Remember upward momentum will slow down as the first step to reversing. The combination of the achievement of a short term breakout price target, a spinning top on Friday, a 100% retracement of the February sell off, the failure of SOX to break horizontal resistance and the trading pattern of one to two strong days and then one to two pause days gives us a Yellow Alert for Monday. The key positive for Friday was the VIX making a new low close. Once again the question becomes, is this simply a pause that refreshes or a short term move to the downside? Short term traders should once again watch for a break of the low of the high day on Monday which is a potential exit signal for short term bullish trades. Take a look at Friday's SPX chart. What candle pattern is formed on Friday? What does it tell you about momentum? The Financial Sector reversed from being the weakest sector on Tuesday to the strongest on Wednesday. XLF regained most of Tuesday’s -6.59% pullback, gaining +4.83%. The Tech Sector XLK was the only losing sector off -0.30% This was primarily fueled by analysts reaction to INTC guidance which apparently was specific enough for some analysts. INTC finished down along with bellwether tech stocks AMAT, MSFT, DELL and CSCO. Leading tech stocks stronger than XLK at -0.30%: AMT, GOOG, SYMC, HPW, VZ, GLW, T, QCOM and ADP. As we wrote Tuesday evening; "The pattern of the past six weeks has ben pause/pullback for two days following a strong move up. Watch to see if this pattern repeats and we see another short lived correction. Remember pullbacks that find support in up trends are potential entry opportunities." If you gave heed to our guidance you were thinking like a master chess player and prepared for the support bounce that took place today. After a weak opening, due in large measure to selling pressure in INTC and other semiconductor stocks stemming from analysts that did not like the level of detail in INTC's second quarter guidance Tuesday after the close, stocks found support about 3 pm ET as indices rallied strong into the close. INTC finished down 39 cents and the SOX index -3.77 for the day. Watch for trend continuation on Thursday. Today was a low day in the SPX, Nasdaq, DJIA and RUT. The SPX, DJIA and RUT each formed a Piercing Line Pattern. Take a close look at this Piercing Line bouncing off a higher low. The SPX broke below recent resistance now support and formed a morning star pattern. The trend is still up and today's action is still a pullback, not yet a trend change. The pattern of the past six weeks has been pause/pullback for two days following a strong move up. Watch to see if this pattern repeats and we see another short lived correction. Remember pullbacks that find support in up trends are potential entry opportunities. (click image to enlarge) Volume on the DJIA increased to 513 million shares up from 424 million shares on Monday. INTC released earnings after the close that beat both earnings and revenue estimates. On that positive the stock fell 5% in after hours trading. Apparently some analysts felt that INTC guidance was not detailed enough, even though the Company expected flat revenues from the first to second quarter, which in the current economic environment is considered a positive. We'll see if traders on Wednesday morning feel the same as Tuesday evening. Another excellent example of it's not the news, but institutional reaction to the news that counts. The SOX which was barely down on Tuesday, was also down in after-hours trading as other semiconductor stocks like BRCM and LLTC also moved lower. Watch INTC and the SOX in the morning to see if the sentiment is still negative. They will give strong clues to early trading in NASDAQ stocks. Sector Watch Up Trending: Sideways: XLE, XLY, XLV, XLK, XLB Down Trending: XLF, XLP, XLI, XLU The broad indices like the sectors were mixed on Monday with the SPX, DJIA and RUT forming a Hanging Man candle pattern. Even though Monday was essentially a flat day, the SPX opened lower and moved lower for about 25 minutes were it found its low of the day at 845.35. The other indices found their low during the first two hours of trading. From their lows it was rally time with the indices moving to their high of the day and with each index making a slightly higher high than on Friday. With the formation of a Hanging Man and spinning top pattern the indices are again at a potential short term top . Short term traders be ready, which we call a Yellow Alert, for a break of the low of the high day. With the VIX not confirming the SPX move up, a hanging man and the push pause pattern since March 10, short term traders are wise to be alert for a potential pull back on Tuesday. A pull back could be one to two days as that has been the pattern since the March 6 bottom. A pull back could also set up a support bounce entry. (click image to enlarge) Volume on the DJIA was 424 million shares significantly above last weeks Monday through Wednesday volume and down slightly from Friday’s 462 million shares. Last week’s light volume reflects a holiday shortened week with Monday's volume returning to average levels. SCHN Stock Gains 12.4% On April 2 in our Stocks webcast we entered a real time virtual trade to buy 100 shares SCHN with a limit target and stop using an OCO (one cancels the other) bracket order that will sell the stock either at a profit or a loss, whichever comes first and then cancel the remaining order. SCHN was in an up trend on April 2 and breaking out of short term horizontal resistance. The chart indicated a price target of 41+. We set the upside limit order at 40.95 and the stop at 32.77. The buy order filled at 36.43 on April 2. This morning at 10:31 MT the 40.95 limit filled and canceled the stop. This produced a gain of 12.4%. SPY and futures trading lower. BMO - ES -6 and NQ -5 futures are down slightly just before the open pointing to a slightly lower open. SPY is down 82 cents in pre-market trading. The pattern of trading since March 10 is one to two strong days up and then one to two days of pause or pull back. Watch Thursday's high as resistance, a breakout could signal continuation. Thursday formed large white candles and the mid-section is S1, the short term support level. Learn the Discipline

Learn the Discipline Model Portfolio Summary - Week Ten In the table below you will see all the positions we have opened since March 10. The positions opened and closed prior to March 10 are listed in past posts. As of Thursday April 9 the portfolio is 55.63% in stocks and the balance in cash. The Portfolio was stopped out of five positions this week, four with losses and one just above break even. NIHD announce on April 6 lower than expected net subscribers for the quarter and the stock dropped and filled the stop. GXDX, AMX and BLUD were also stopped out this week. Even with the realized losses from these positions, the Portfolio had a gain for the week and is still outperforming the SPX during the same time frame on both a net gain and a risk adjusted basis. We entered four new positions this week in GILD, VAR, AMED and SLGN. The total value of the open positions is 89,665.95 and the total portfolio value is 161,168.52. Because daily values will fluctuate in any portfolio, what is of greatest interest this week is the seven open positions that are now over four weeks old. These seven positions have gained from 4.95% to 43.28%. You may review the positions opened on March 10 on the Summary below. There are also five closed positions that had been opened on March 10 that had returns of -10.25% to +2.96%. This is the first intermediate term evidence of the value of this intermediate term strategy. The open intermediate term gains are initially far out performing the early exits supporting our original expectations that the strategy would produce losses in the short run and still produce larger profits over the intermediate term. While it is still too early to draw any definite conclusions the early results are beginning to support the validity of the strategy. We reiterate this week that: It is always better to outperform than underperform the market. (click image to enlarge)

We expected volume to be light on Thursday, as it was from Monday to Wednesday, and it was NOT. Thursday’s large move was supported by good volume. The trend continues to be up. We will watch the trading pattern closely as traders return from the long weekend on Monday. The pattern since March 10 has been strong up for one to two days and then pause or pullback for one to two days. Until a new pattern emerges we will expect traders to push and pause. Also earnings begin this next week. We expect positive earnings like recently reported RIMM, BBBY and JOSB to strengthen the market. Oh don’t worry, there will plenty of disappointments over the next four weeks to counter balance the positive surprises. Dave’s Insight: Trade the trend and trade strength. Futures Pointing to a Flat Opening...

Markets are in rally mode today following the pattern, we pointed out earlier, of the past four weeks with brief condsolidations of one to two days... Both the NQ +16 and ES +7 futures are forming bullish piercing line patterns, the cash SPX +9 is forming a bullish engulfing pattern and the Nasdaq Composite +26 is moving above Tuesday's high...Let the Trend make you money! BMO - With more than an hour to go before the open ES +1 and NQ +8 are flat to slightly up indicating a near to flat opening. After Tuesday's trading the short term bias is down. It is also wise to keep in mind that the recent four week trend is up and consolidation periods since March 9 have been approximatley two days in length, so we must stay mentally flexible in the event that this pull back is also short lived.
