SPX, NDX Gap Up Close Significantly Higher after U.S. - China Trade Deal...Consumer Discretionary, Technology, Industrials Lead Sectors...

© 2025

SPX +184.28, 5,844, gapped up 147 points after positive developments from trade talks between the U.S. and China.  After initial profit taking the SPX closed higher than it opened and formed a white candle after breaking out of six-week horizontal resistance.    The DJI, 42,410 +2.81%, closed lower and NDX +4.02% broke out of six-week resistance and closed significantly higher.

Breadth strengthened in every category and was significantly stronger.

Monday Insight: Remember market prices do NOT go straight up. The trend action is thrust, pause, trend, consolidate, inhale, exhale.  An uptrend is a series of higher highs that pull back to higher lows.  Stay in flow with the market, in flow, in flow with the market.  It’s okay that it fluctuates.  Trend has a higher probability than fluctuation.  You know when the sun goes down it does come back tomorrow.

Thursday session insight: To be a good trader, you don’t need to know the future or predict the future.  No one knows the future and if anyone suggests they know the future, they’re often trying to sell you something.  What you do need to know is the present.  As a technician, does the chart show an actionable price action in which your rules give you an edge?  If so, position size for a risk that is appropriate for your diversified portfolio.  If not, do nothing.

Wednesday session insight: Cognitive dissonance is the state of having inconsistent thoughts, beliefs or attitudes, especially as relating to behavioral decisions and attitude change.  Paul Tudor Jones expects stocks to fall to new lows.  Bill Miller said “I think the worst is over for the market. I’m pretty confident about that.”  Miller is best known for beating the SPX 15 straight years. Confused?  Don’t be, neither of these legendary investors know the future. Trade what you see...DJ
