Stocks moved lower on Thursday with their largest pullback from the open in the last eight trading days. Gold jumped over 7% and oil rose over $3 as the dollar fell. Gold and oil stocks moved higher.
The Financial sector which has led the market higher over the past two weeks was the weakest sector on Thursday. XLF fell -7.93%. Leading financial stocks which lost more than 8% included PRU, C, MS, MET, RF, ZION, TROW, BK, WFC, SCHW, USB, BAC, IVZ, KEY, PNC and NTRS.
Dave’s Insight: Patience is an essential characteristic of trading success. The At the Open list has required patience this week as each day looked like a signal might appear. Be ready when a signal does occur.

The DJIA failed to confirm Wednesday’s hanging man by just 6 points as the index fell to the 50% Fib from its 61.8% Fib reached Wed, closed above its 30 DMA…bearish harami-like inside day
The SPX formed a dark cloud cover bouncing down from its 61.8% Fib Retracement (Feb 9) and its 50 DMA…Thursday is a new high day by 0.20 point…watch for a break below today’s low
The Nasdaq formed dark cloud cover like candle which closed above its 50 DMA and its 61.8% Fib retracement (Feb 9)…a new high day…watch for a break below today’s low
The RUT formed a dark cloud cover like candle that bounced down from its 61.8% Fib retracement (Feb 8)…and its 50 DMA…a new high day…watch for a break below today’s low
