Technical Commentary:
The SPY exploded higher retracing more than 75% of its selloff from its November 6 high.  Friday’s explosive price action is a classic example of why Chart Signals has reminded readers Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday morning to remember the old adage, “never short a dull market.”  The VIX moved down and did confirm the SPY move up.

This week’s price action is beginning to look like a V bottom pattern.

The ES closed just beyond our 1,402 price target at 1,405.50.  NQ futures closed at 2,635.75.

RIMM and MCP experienced increased volume on Friday’s shortened trading day.  RIMM shares jumped after an analyst raised its price target from 12 to 15 and optimism about the forthcoming Blackberry 10. MCP shares increased after reports of insider buying.

As stated the weight of the evidence suggests recent support is the near-term low and this bounce is likely to continue even if it does pull back.

The Euro moved up 55 pips on Thursday and closed up 92 pips at 1.2975 on Friday.   The German Ifo index of business sentiment was reported at 101.4 on Friday, above of forecasts of 99.5.

TNX, interest rates rose and TLT, bonds moved down 12 cents.  XLF was up 19 cents to 15.84, breaking above short-term resistance at 15.69.

Technical Commentary:
The SPY inched higher and closed 8 cents above Chart Signals 139.37 price target (Monday evening), in narrow range trading on light pre-holiday volume on Wednesday following a pause on Tuesday.  Monday’s S1 area continues to act as short-term support.  The VIX moved up and did not confirm the SPY move up.

The ES and NQ futures also moved slightly higher in a narrow trading range on light volume.  Once again the ES rose to Chart Signals (Mon/Tues evening) price target of 1,393 reaching 1,393.75 before closing at 1,389.

Stocks with increased volume included: CRM, DE, GRPN, IBM, TSL, CHL, FB, INTC, PNRA, CTXS, VRSN and BIDU.

Volume was lighter for SPY, DIA, QQQ, IWM and most stocks as traders prepared for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

The SPY has retraced just over 50% of its selloff from its Nov 6 high and could be ready to pull back, the weight of the evidence suggests recent support is the near-term low and this bounce is likely to continue even if it does pull back.

The Euro closed up 12 pips at 1.2828.  TNX, interest rates rose and TLT, bonds moved down 7 cents.

XLF unchanged, BO setup.

SPY – S1 holds, 139.50 BO setup

Technical Commentary:
The SPY paused on Tuesday following large gains on Monday.  Tuesday’s pullback stayed above the S1 area of Monday’s range including its gap, indicating buyers are willing to buy pause pullbacks.  The VIX moved down and did confirm the SPY move up.

The ES and NQ futures also bounced off of S1 and rallied.

When the SPY turned negative just after 1 pm the Euro, TNX and XLF stayed relatively strong and TLT and VIX remained relatively weak suggesting the pullback would be temporary.  The SPY bounced more than $1 from its low closing up six cents for the day.

Volume was lighter across most issues and traders look to the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

Weight of the evidence suggests recent support is the near-term low and this bounce is likely to continue.

The Euro closed up 4 pips at 1.2812.  TNX, interest rates rose and TLT, bonds moved down -1.26 and confirmed its shooting star candle.

XLF was up 8 cents BO setup.
