Technical Commentary:

The SPY formed bullish engulfing pattern above its 30 DMA.  Support is holding in its current bull flag pattern.  The VIX closed up slightly and did not confirm the SPY move up today.

 

The ES closed up 4.50 at 1,412.75 as the 1,400 support area held again on Thursday…NQ futures closed up 17.75 at 2,656.25 as AAPL found support and bounced.

Coal stocks WLT, BTU, CNX continued higher and ANR, ACI and JRCC paused as hard drive storage stocks WDC and STX continued to move big.

The weight of the evidence continues to suggest the Nov 16 low is likely to hold and Thursday’s price action suggests the current pullback may be near its end, forming a higher low and leading to a continuation to higher levels.

The Euro closed down 100 pips at 1.2965 on Thursday.

The SPY formed another spinning top above its 30 DMA.  Support is holding in its current bull flag pattern.  The VIX move down did confirm the SPY move up today.

 

The ES closed up 3.50 at 1,408.25 as the 1,400 support area held again on Wednesday…NQ futures closed down 27.25 at 2,638.50.

Coal stocks ANR, ACI, WLT, BTU, CNX and JRCC bounced as did hard drive storage stocks WDC and STX.

The weight of the evidence continues to suggest the Nov 16 low is likely to hold and Wednesday’s price action suggests the current pullback may be near its end, forming a higher low and leading to a continuation to higher levels.

The ES closed down 2.00 at 1,404.75 as the 1,400 support area held again on Tuesday…NQ futures closed down 5.00 at 2,665.25.

NFLX went from Monday’s biggest loser to Tuesday’s biggest gainer in the NDX on new information that NFLX will be the exclusive online distribution agreement with DIS.  GMCR continues to gain following strong Q4 earnings last week and analyst raising its price target from 42 to 56.
